The Evolution Of A Superstar

Some of us saw this coming, while others didn’t; some knew he would be a star, while others didn’t; some claimed he was an injury proned player wouldn’t be anything more than an above average Point Guard, while others still believed.

Over the course of this season Stephen Curry has proven time in and time out that he’s the real deal. He led the Warriors to a 47-35 record while averaging 23ppg and 7ast. He broke Ray Allen’s single season record in 3pt field goals made and is currently leading his Warriors team to a first round upset over the Denver Nuggets.

In the Playoffs Elite players step their game up; and thats exactly what Stephen Curry did. He went from averaging 23ppg and 7ast in the season to averaging 27ppg and 10ast. He averages more assists than any other player in the Playoffs and has the fourth highest Points Per Game average behind Anthony, Durant and Harden.

With the lights shining bright, and people watch closely Stephen Curry is delivering; like a Superstar

Time To Step Up Kevin Durant

image

The other day Kevin Durant said, “I’m Tired of being second.” He talked about being second in high-school, college, the MVP race, the Scoring Title and how he’s second to LeBron. The only thing he didn’t mention is how he’s second on the OKC Thunder. I’m sure that statement sounds absurd but it’s true.
Kevin Durant is easily OKC’s best player. But at times Durant doesn’t get the shots number one guys take. For example, Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony both get the shots they need to close out games and etc; Kevin Durant on the other hand doesn’t get the ball as much because Russell Westbrook takes it upon himself to get buckets and close out games. Thus depriving Kevin Durant from being a 35ppg guy.
Sure, its good that Kevin Durant has a guy that can take pressure off of him, but at the end of the day Durant needs to get the ball more so he can hush his critics and show us how great he is. With that being said, Kevin Durant now has his chance.
While Westbrook is out, due to a torn meniscus, Kevin Durant will have his chance to show us why he’s ready to be #1. He’ll have a chance to rebound, score and distribute more showing us a more complete game. The lights are on and the camera is rolling; now its Durant’s time to show us what he’s all about.

The NBA Playoffs

image

After about seven months of NBA basketball we’ve finally reached the best part of the season, the Playoffs. To start the First Round off in the Eastern Conference we have the:

1.Miami Heat vs 8.Milwaukee Bucks

4.Brooklyn Nets vs 5.Chicago Bulls

3.Indiana Pacers vs 6.Atlanta Hawks

2.New York Knicks vs Boston Celtics

In the Western Conference we have the:
1.Oklahoma City Thunder vs 8.Houston Rockets

4.Los Angeles Clippers vs 5.Memphis Grizzles

3.Denver Nuggets vs 6.Golden State Warriors

2.San Antonio Spurs vs 7.Los Angeles Lakers
Each series has something special going which should keep us entertained throughout!
                  Heat vs Bucks:
Earlier this season Monta Ellis said he was on the same level as Dwade. Shortly after that Jennings said they wanted to play the Heat in the Playoffs. And just the other day Jennings said the Bucks will win in 6. Crazy I know! But with all the trash talk coming out of Milwaukee I feel like the Heat will bring them back down to reality. Heat win this series 4-0.
                    Nets vs Bulls
This series will tell us if we should take the Nets seriously. With D-Will back to his Utah days and Lopez playing at an Allstar level they should be able to beat the Bulls right? The answer is no. Chicago is a better team and will make things look ugly because of their defense. And who knows they may have a surprise return from Derrick Rose. With or without Rose the Bulls will win this series 4-2
              Pacers vs Hawks
In this series we have a budding star ( Paul George,) going against a guy who’s trying to show the world he’s a top notch player (Josh Smith.) This series will be over in 5 games setting up a Pacers-Knicks reunion in round two.
               Knicks vs Celtics:
Upset alert!!!! Ok, maybe not but this will be an interesting series! In this series we’ll see if Melo is the real deal or just a guy with no hope of winning a ring. We’ll also find out if this is Boston’s last stand in the K.G era. I have the Knicks winning 4-3, but don’t be surprised if the Celtics win in six!
Now lets head to the West.
           Thunder vs Rockets:
Harden vs his old team and good friends turning into rivals. This series will be about Harden showing OKC what they’re missing and OKC showing Harden they don’t necessarily need him. This could also be the series Jeremy Lin breaks out, but I highly doubt it. Anyway Harden and co. may steal one in OKC, but they won’t be able to stop the best duo in the league consistently. OKC wins 4-2
             Clippers vs Grizzles
Rivalry!!!!!! After last year’s series I have a feeling the Grizzles want and will get revenge. The Grizzles will also show us why they don’t need Rudy Gay. The Clippers on the other hand aren’t going to be able to stop the Grizzles bigs downlow. Memphis will win this series 4-3.
               Nuggets vs Warriors
Whoa, Curry vs Lawson; Manimal vs Lee; Jack vs Miller; Karl vs Jackson! This series should be a thriller. Sure Denver doesn’t have Gallinari but G-State doesn’t have Brandon Rush or a healthy Andrew Bogut. Nevertheless this series will go 7 games with the Golden State Warriors winning!
                Spurs vs Lakers:
Upset Alert x10!!!! The Spurs may have one of the best offenses in the league, if not the best, but it has slowed down as of late. Parker is still recovering while Ginobli and Diaw are out. And on top of that they cut Stephen Jackson and signed the First Round Exit Curse himself, Tracy Mcgrady!! But thats not all. Gasol and Dwight have found a way to play together and should be too much downlow for the Spurs. On the defensive side of the ball they’re playing alot better and should be able to stop the Spurs’ offense. And lets not forget Dwight Howard has something to prove and that the other Lakers are inspired and motivated by Kobe Bryant and the death of Dr.Buss….Lakers win this series 4-2.
               Players To Watch:
Josh Smith- wants a Max contact and believes he’s a top 15 player.

Dwight Howard- to show he has what it takes to lead the Lakers.

James Harden- to show he can lead his team with or without stars.

Carmelo Anthony- To show he’s next in line and that he has arrived

Kevin Durant- to show everyone his time is now!

Russell Westbrook- to show the Thunder can win with him and that he’s not taking away from Kevin Durant.

Paul George- to show everyone he can lead the Pacers and that he’s their guy.

LeBron James- to put his stamp on history and spark the Kobe-LeBron-Jordan debate more.

          Honorable Mention:
Brandon Jennings, Monta Ellis, Tracy Mcgrady, Stephen Curry, Ty Lawson, Blake Griffin, Jeremy Lin, Derrick Rose, Jeff Green, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Jeff Teague, Pau Gasol, Tony Parker, Kevin Martin, Amare’ Stoudamire, Roy Hibbert,  David West.

         April 20th it all Begins!!!!!!

Louisville vs Michigan. Who you got?

And here we are, just hours away from tipoff of the most anticipated game in college basketball, the NCAA Men’s National Championship. In this year’s game we have the Louisville Cardinals and their smothering defense going against Trey Burke and the Michigan Wolverines.

image

               Prediction:
This game should be a nail biter with Michigan pulling off late in the final two minutes. Trey Burke had a subpar game against Syracuse and I expect him to shake it off and perform at a higher level tonight. At the end of the day I believe Michigan possess a little too much firepower for Louisville’s defense.
           Score Prediction:
  Michigan wins 88-80

Defying Father Time

image

For the last couple of years Kobe and his play has put fans and analysts in a bad mind frame. Before this season started there was talk of Kobe Bryant showing his age and slowly becoming a second tier player.
The talk first started two seasons ago after Kobe and his Lakers got swept by the Dallas Mavericks. In that series against Dallas, Kobe wasn’t able to carry his team to victories. In the first two games of that series Kobe got out played by Dirk in crunch time. Kobe was also getting beat by J.J Barea and Jason Terry whenever he guarded them. And last but not least, Kobe couldn’t get the looks he wanted because of the tough defense being played by Shawn Marion, Jason Kidd and Deshawn Stevenson. After the series concluded we found out Kobe was playing on one knee and messed up his ankle. So not only was he showing his age, his body was deteriorating.
During that offseason Kobe went to Germany and had knee surgery on his ailing knee. After the surgery there was talk of Kobe showing some spark and playing younger. After hearing that fans of Kobe ,and others, became excited about the upcoming season. But during the pre-season Kobe tore a ligament in his wrist that happened to be on his shooting hand. Despite the injury Kobe played and turned some heads. During that season Kobe averaged: 28pts 5reb 5ast 30% 3pt 43% FGP 84% FT in 39mpg. Compared to the 25pts 5reb 5ast 32% 3PT 45% FGP 83% FT in 34mpg Yes his scoring went up but his efficiency went down; which meant he wasn’t getting easy looks. So instead of raving about the scoring he was doing people knocked him for being slower and inefficient.
During the Playoffs last season Kobe’s age got to him. In the series against OKC Kobe got out played by Durant, James Harden and Westbrook. During the 4th Quarters Kobe couldn’t close like he used to; Kobe couldn’t defend; Kobe couldn’t get the looks he wanted; Kobe couldn’t make the plays that needed to be made. As a result Kobe and the Lakers went home in five games. After that series there were talks of Kobe running out of gas. Kobe showing his age. Kobe’s body is done. Kobe would be lucky to average 20+ points next season. And other ignorant claims. During the Olympics Kobe looked out of place at times when playing with Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, LeBron, Melo, Igudola and others. He couldn’t run the floor like they were doing. He couldn’t score like they could. He couldn’t defend like them. And after hearing and witnessing those type of things there was only one thing that could be said: Father Time Has Finally Caught Up With Him. People stuck with that until the start of the season.
Once the season started we saw a younger, quicker, stronger, faster, efficient Kobe Bryant. Despite him being hampered by injuries this season ( Hip, Foot, Ankle, Ankle, Hand, Knee, Flu etc,) he averages 27ppg 6reb 6ast 33% 3pt 46% FGP 83% FT in 38mpg. Compared to the past two seasons all of his numbers are up and he’s playing better defensively.
After 16 (17 if you count now,) seasons in the NBA players usually become shells of themselves. Hell after 13+ season players’ productions drop off because of their ages and the wear and tear their bodies have consumed thru the duration of their career. But not Kobe Bean Bryant.
At age 34 with 16 1/2 seasons under his belt, numerous injuries and plenty of excuses to live off on, Kobe continues to defy the odds and fight Father Time. Instead of getting worse he’s getting better. Instead of aging he’s getting younger. Instead of giving up he keeps fighting. In cases of him losing to Father Time he keeps rewriting.

6-year, $108million contract extension….. Breathe Cowboy fans breathe…
This extension is not, and I repeat, IS NOT the end of the world or a sign the Cowboys don’t want to win. By signing Romo it shows that they want to win.

Yes Romo makes mistakes and doesn’t show up in big time games. We know that. But can you name someone that’ll help make the Cowboys better?

Sure Brady, Manning, Rodgers and Brees would make them better, but lets be honest for a second; do they really have a chance to get them?

No they don’t and there aren’t any other quarterbacks available to make a legit case. Some may say draft a QB. But as of late the Cowboys have had a bad history when it comes to drafting quarterbacks. So in other words Tony Romo is staying whether you like it or not.

Now that they’ve addressed the QB and salary situation it’s time to bulk up the O-Line and improve the defense. They also need to find a solution at the runningback position. At this point it’s time to improve the overall team. Signing Romo helped, but it won’t be enough.
